A number of people have started to point out problems with the Rudy Giuliani camp’s explanation of what happened to their strategy binder, both strategically and factually. It strikes me that they are trying to make an issue of this to force an exposure of who gave it to the Daily News.
It strikes me that the person who benefits most from this is Romney, who is pushing the narrative that he’s the viable anti-McCain candidate. That’s why National Review had that cover a couple of weeks ago. If Giuliani looks incompetent, then the donor community might just go with Romney.
And of course, today, Romney is announcing, or at least filing. And, as that Washington Times article indicates, the story is "Rudy can’t control documents and Romney is a serious guy." That’s a good story for Romney.
Update: The NY Post has a story that says it was a Charlie Crist staffer.
