UPDATE: GOPProgress and Jim Geraghty have now written on this.

Earlier in the week, Mitt Romney released his National Faith and Values Steering Committee. In doing so, he entered a brave new world. Four of the people on the list are bloggers:

– David French, Senior Counsel, Alliance Defense Fund, Tennessee
– Nancy French, Author, Red State of Mind, Tennessee
– Justin Hart, Vice President of Communications, Lighted Candle Society

– Jason Bonham, Illinois State Director, Legacy Law Foundation, Illinois

Nancy and David French write at Evangelicals for Mitt. And Justin and Jason founded and write for My Man Mitt. Now, my question is: will the campaign be held accountable for what these bloggers say? After all, they are now deputized by the campaign itself as spokesmen on "Faith and Values."

Well, Jason Bonham really classed it up today. He called Sam Brownback a "bottom feeding candidate" and posted a picture of a bottom feeding fish. If Jason were a campaign staffer, he would be fired.

So how will the Romney campaign respond? This isn’t quote Amanda Marcotte material. But this is pretty offensive. Presumably, if the Romney campaign has any decency, Jason will be removed and disavowed form the campaign.

Of course, these bloggers have said other deeply offensive things. Let’s see how the Romney experiment goes.

In any case, if this is the kind of "Faith and Values" that the Romney campaign has, I say, "no thanks."

What, it’s not OK to call your opponent is a sea-dwelling creature all of a sudden? Brownback is the one who’s been paying that guy in a dolphin suit, you know.

I had not seen that. Thanks!

I think I am going to take a closer look at Huckabee. I think Brownback lost any consideration after the stunts he has pulled lately. If Brownback thinks the only way he can win the nomination is by burying the other candidates ahead of him, no thanks. Huckabee has made some remarks that I wasn’t pleased with either regarding other candidates, however I will take a closer look. Brownback is definitely out. This is how So Cons campaign?

Um, MyManMitt.com said the dolphin was hired by some anti-Mormon group. They wrote that a few months ago.

“trading his integrity for cheap political shots”?

Brownback is attacking your candidate who plays fast and loose with the truth.

In any case, you have a responsibility as a representative of the campaign now, to act appropriately. That is far out of line. If you were paid campaign staff you would almost certainly be fired.

You have demonstrated that the “Values” part of your title is completely bankrupt.

Soren

Could you please change you post to reflect the fact I am not an official.

The faith and Values Commitee (If you read the Press Release) is a group of people he haven’t endorsed Romney. While I clearly have, being on the commitee does not make me an official in the campaign. That’s your spin- and something you know is false.

I stand behind the substance of what I said, Brownback is being dishonet in his remarks of Romney, and my post clearly shows this. As usual you are more interested in filling your site wih Anti-Romney posts with misinformed facts than you are in providing a fair and acurate account of the 2008 race.

eye · June 16, 2007 at 9:22 AM

You are an official. The press release says in the candidate’s words that you have joined the campaign. Let’s look at some quotes from it:

(quoting Romney) “‘I am proud to be joined by these leaders in our campaign to change Washington'”

“a coalition of supporters who will advise Governor Romney on matters of faith and values”

In other words, you are clearly, clearly an official of the campaign. You will clearly trade on your alleged access to the campaign. That’s why I called this an experiment.

jbonham76 · June 16, 2007 at 1:17 PM

Soren,

Soren, read the press release, the part that says people on the committee have not endorsed Romney.

eye · June 16, 2007 at 5:30 PM

No Jason. It says that the organizations have not endorsed. It is perfectly clear that the people have.

In any case, endorsements are a side show. You have been declared a representative of the campaign and adviser to the candidate, and you are acting in a vile manner. That’s the issue. Will the campaign denounce your behavior?

ee2793 · June 19, 2007 at 9:43 PM

Don’t worry, jbonham, everyone know’s Soren’s a McCain sock puppet, an anti-Mormon (religion) bigot.

eye · June 20, 2007 at 8:01 AM

ee2793,

As usual for you, there is no substance and no honesty to your claims. I have been through this in person with people like Justin Hart.

As I have indicated before, I am undecided on who I am supporting. I started out liking Romney a lot. And his dishonesty and that of his supporters quickly turned my stomach.
