Mitt Romney filed, hired a great lawyer, put up a new website, and set out his new message. I see several themes:
- Romney is shining up his conservative credentials. Top and center is "America cannot continue to lead the family of nations around the world if we suffer the collapse of the family here at home."
- He has two different messages. To the business community it is, "he always says what he means and always does what he says." However, when he’s talking to social conservatives, for example in a Human Events interview, he says, "But the great thing is people don’t have to look at what people say, they can look at what they do." I don’t see how to reconcile those on first glance.
- He doesn’t link to stories in the news. He links to his press releases, but calls them articles. This guy has a strange relationship to the press, as Kung Fu Quip noted.
More thoughts soon. I have to run off to some Congressional Swearing In ceremonies.
