Now the American Spectator has a write up:

Republicans may have discovered another presidential hopeful who is a uniter, not a divider. Outgoing Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has managed to bring together religious conservatives and homosexual activists. Unfortunately for Romney, they’ve joined forces to attack him for gay-rights inconsistencies.

The Spectator points out that much of this is being driven by Mitt’s home state activists:

Long before the national media paid attention, Massachusetts conservative activist Brian Camenker was warning anyone who would listen that Romney "has a long history of promoting and furthering the homosexual agenda" while Bay Windows, New England’s largest gay newspaper, was running articles titled "Mitt Romney’s secret gay history."

Did you notice that Romney has problems in his home state? Like former state party chair Jim Rappaport attacking him (here and here). It is getting blog coverage from Krusty Konservative, one of the leading conservative Iowa blogs:

Comments like these and his past statements on abortion from his past campaigns are going to give him fits here in Iowa. Pro-Romney people like to make excuses for his past remarks by saying that Romney was running for office in the bluest of blue states, and any Republican is better than a Democrat.

That sort of logic should worry any conservative. It seems as if Romney likes to wet his finger and see which way the wind is blowing instead of standing on principal.

If this meme sets in, it is over for Romney. Where’s Iowa Christian Alliance?

[…] Now I just said that Romney’s hometown support was a little weak. But this is outrageous. A lot has been made about McCain’s age, but the guy has a bunch of cross-generational appeal. A bunch of Massachusetts College Republicans endorsed McCain over the weekend. I think this matters. I’ll just include their announcement: […]

[…] Mitt Romney’s nascent campaign is beginning to respond to questions (here, here, and here) raised about a letter that he sent to the Massachusetts Log Cabin Republicans back in 1994. David Brody, from the Christian Broadcasting Network, got a response from the Romney press operation: Governor Romney believes Americans should be respectful of all people. Over the past four years as governor, Mitt Romney has not implemented new or special rights in this area and he has not advocated or supported any change in the military’s policies. As governor, he’s been a champion of traditional marriage. He’s fought the efforts of activist judges who seek to redefine marriage, and he’s testified before the U.S. Senate in support of the Federal Marriage Amendment. Governor Romney has been a leader in protecting marriage and in focusing this debate on the needs of children. […]
