Yesteday, I wrote about the possibility of Mitt Romney facing political problems in Florida because of his pandering flip-flop on immigration. ABC picked up on the issue, and pointed out that Jeb Bush was "disappointed." Turns out that the Miami Herald picked up the story too: But his immigration stance is at odds with some [...]

Thomas Friedman (Times $elect) attended a graduation at Rensselaer Polytech. He noticed something: The reason I had to laugh was because it seemed like every one of the newly minted Ph.D.’s at Rensselaer was foreign born. For a moment, as the foreign names kept coming — “Hong Lu, Xu Xie, Tao Yuan, Fu Tang” — [...]

ABC just wrote about the damage that Mitt Romney’s pandering on immigration will do to him in Florida. It even quotes Jeb Bush as "disappointed" in Romney. I think that this raises an interesting process point. There has been much talk about adding Nevada to the Democratic schedule having the impact of foregrounding Hispanics and [...]

There has been speculation that Rudy Giuliani is playing very carefully on the immigration issue because he wants Schwarzenegger’s endorsement. I have a related theory. Is Mitt Romney hurting himself with Jeb Bush because of his flip-flopping pander on immigration? Several points as you think about this. First Jeb Bush has spoken out strongly on [...]

McCain discusses Romney’s position on immigration: Maybe I should wait a of couple weeks and see if it changes. Maybe he can get out his small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his yard. McCain refers to Romney’s general flip-floppery, Romney’s gun gaffes, and the illegals who take care of Romney’s yard.

This is a deal breaker for me: “A merit-based system for allocating green cards may sound good for business,” said Mr. Hoffman, who is co-chairman of Compete America, a coalition of technology companies. “But after reviewing the proposal, we have concluded that it is the wrong approach and will not solve the talent crisis facing [...]

Hugh Hewitt says: If Senator Kyl comes forward with a half dozen revisions which the GOP will insist on, including construction of the entire fence and additional barriers that were authorized last year’s law prior to the beginning of the “paperwork period” [his emphasis] for regularization … that citizenship is not open to anyone who [...]

John from Powerline says: JOHN adds: As I wrote last night, I think the immigration bill is dead on arrival. This morning’s Washington Times contains a pessimistic evaluation of the compromise’s prospects, titled "Illegals Deal Alienates Everyone." It includes this quote from Congressman Mike Pence: I don’t believe the Senate bill has a future in [...]

So, I got the section-by-section analysis from Human Events. And I have some thoughts about the immigration bill. For most conservatives, there are two questions that matter. The first one is about border security provisions, and the second is about "amnesty." I’m going to address these in this post. There are other important questions, and [...]
