Illinois moving up too?

10 January, 2007 (14:36) | Uncategorized | By: eye

According to Capital Fax, Illinois may move up to February 5th too. Another big state and another expensive media market. It just gets harder to not be a top-tier candidate.

Bunches of endorsements

10 January, 2007 (12:08) | Uncategorized | By: eye

A bunch of endorsements were announced today: The GA GOP Chair and National Committeeman is McCain’s southern Co-chair. The AL Treasurer is Romney’s AL Chair.

Romney weighs in on Iraq with a mealy-mouth statement

10 January, 2007 (10:11) | Uncategorized | By: eye

Update: Brownback had previously taken a position and this blog suggests that Romney is talking about 20k troops. Update II: Silence from Giuliani. So far, the debate on the relationship between the Iraq and the 2008 Presidential has focused on the Democrats running from the war and the effect on John McCain’s candidacy. I wrote [...]

Romney’s success and where to go from here

9 January, 2007 (11:51) | Strategy | By: eye

Mitt Romney had a gangbuster day yesterday. He raised a lot of money. His top-notch staff handled the press beautifully. We can expect a series of announcements in the next couple of days about people he has signed up to maintain the momentum. Senator Jim DeMint, it seems the last non-McCain Republican in South Carolina, [...]

MA Pro-Lifers prefer Brownback over Romney

8 January, 2007 (14:36) | Uncategorized | By: eye

This is from a Brownback press release. Is it me or are Massachusetts Republicans and conservatives not so fond of their governor? First, Mass Resistance hates him. Then, he loses his own College Republicans to McCain. Then he loses his own Senate Minority Leader. Now he loses his social conservatives: In order to preserve traditional [...]

Romney’s Dial-a-thon (update)

8 January, 2007 (10:29) | Uncategorized | By: eye

I’ve slammed Mitt Romney a bunch, but this is a great idea. The Globe and Hotline both have great coverage. Hotline points out that Romney already has pledges for over $1m. I wouldn’t be surprised by $2m or even $3m. The goal here is clearly for Romney to scare people out of the race. McCain [...]

How bad is “The Surge” for McCain? What about the Dems?

8 January, 2007 (09:57) | Uncategorized | By: eye

In recent weeks, there has been interminable talk about how John McCain’s Presidential hopes could be over because of his position on Iraq. While I see that McCain’s position on Iraq could be a threat to his candidacy, I think that the Democrats are between a rock and a hard place. President Bush is clearly [...]

Romney and Brownback finish exploring

7 January, 2007 (22:35) | Uncategorized | By: eye

Sam Brownback and Mitt Romney both seem to have made the decision to formally announce that they are running. Both spoke at Awakening, and they will both announce in the next week. Romney with donors in Boston. Brownback with Right-to-Life activists in Kansas before they leave for the March for Life in DC, with a [...]

Does Rudy® have cold feet?

7 January, 2007 (19:04) | Uncategorized | By: eye

I’ve seen two posts now suggesting that Rudy Giuliani may consider dropping out. Political Insider says that the Mayor just hasn’t made up his mind yet. And in an article on McCain locking up SC donors, LJ of Race42008 says of Rudy: The way the Republican primary schedule is shaping up, the nominee will be [...]

The Fight for the Right

6 January, 2007 (13:00) | Uncategorized | By: eye

I woke up and saw this article at the Christian Broadcasting Network (recall, Pat Robertson’s operation). They report that Jerry Zandstra, President of the Michigan Pro-life League and a member of Sam Brownback’s Exploratory Committee, attacked Romney for flip-flopping on taxes: If this were the only flip in Gov. Romney’s budding candidacy, fiscal conservatives could [...]
