Mr. Wilson,

Based on your comment, it's safe to say your position is questionable. The fact that you're willing to make such sweeping generalizations about the efforts and intentions of "the Mormons" shows you're not careful with reason and fact.

I personally don't believe Mitt Romney is behind this because he's a man of integrity. I agree with you on one point: Using this sort of push-pulling to gain sympathy would be a dirty trick. If he authorized it, I'd question my support for him. But because he is an honest man, I'm confident his campaign is not officially behind this.

The Mormons have been spinning this all weekend. First they called it unamerican, anti-Mormon bigotry and tried to pin it on McCain. Then they tried to deny that Western Wats was the company that made the calls.

Then they tried to say that Western Wats doesn't have any connections with either Romney or the Mormon business establishment in Utah.

Now, as the net tightens, they're trying to say that it was just innocent "message testing." If it was just innocent message testing, then why was the Romney campaign initially so "outraged?"

Looks like someone done got caught trying to play a dirty trick on himself to generate sympathy, and thereby rule out any mention of which faith it is when he trumpets his faith-based politics.

Bye-bye, Mitt! Nice knowing you.

But if it isn't a push poll but actually a message testing poll, as seems quite likely, then Romney would have a legitimate reason to run them 'against himself' in order to defend himself against the same attacks. I was also once called with a message testing poll where they read me both positive and negative statements about both the candidate who commissioned the poll and also his opponent. I can't imagine it was that unusual.
